He knows first-hand what it means to make a payroll, create jobs, and keep our miners working. Those miners have supported our economies, paid taxes and helped our local communities for decades.
Today, their jobs are being threatened by out-of-state corporations trying to get special tax deals from our local governments for the construction of gas plants in our region.
In a recent interview with Hoppy Kercheval on the statewide radio show Talkline, Mr. Murray discussed how these special deals are bad for our local workers and how it could be devastating to our local economies and communities.
You can listen to his entire interview here.
Mr. Murray is not the only one who opposes these special tax deals. Last summer, Cecil Roberts, president of the United Mine Workers of America, also voiced his strong opposition to these special deals.
Business and labor agrees that these deals are not good for the Ohio Valley. Yet many of our local governments are continuing to offer out-of-state corporations special tax deals that could hurt our workers.
The time to act is now.
You can help the efforts of the Ohio Valley Jobs Alliance in several ways:
- Call your local county commissioners and other elected officials and urge them to oppose these special tax deals for gas plants.
- Write letters to your local newspapers urging other citizens to help us fight these special deals.
- Encourage your friends and family to join the Ohio Valley Jobs Alliance by visiting www.ohiovalleyjobs.org. Make sure they know membership is free.
- Connect with the Ohio Valley Jobs Alliance on Facebook and Twitter.
